The cow is my main weapon from the day I was born, said Mr. Rao.

He has been cultivating it for 10 years. My father said to me, ‘If you use this cow for any useful work, it is not worth it. For me, I use it for this.

Now it is being cultivated by the people in the government. A lot of local people are in their 50s, he added.

Mr. Rao has a wife in the family who is 50 years old. If he has to cut back on the time spent sowing the crops, he has to do so at more cost.

An estimated one to three million cow-cows are planted in India annually and in some cases, the amount of money spent on the harvesting, distribution, storage and processing of them is just 600 per cow, according to the government.

But those same people spend less on the traditional agriculture and other types of produce. And, that’s why there isn’t enough variety for them to grow.

The farmer pays for the seed, so he gets less value in the harvest and it doesn’t make much sense, Mr. Rao said.

Many farmers don’t even know they have an option. They have no options.

The current Congress government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will decide what to do with them if it doesn’t get it right, said Jandekar Srinivasan, president of National Vowgaon Farmers Council (NCFC).

They aren’t in the mindset that, ‘Well, that is not possible. We can do something for them. We need a government and we do it.’

If the government does not do so, farmers will go hungry, and their livelihoods, which are directly impacted by the government’s policies on milk exports and dairy farming, will suffer, he said.
