No. When I was growing up I never used to draw llamas. They are amazing animals and it was just a matter of a matter of time before I learned the art of drawing llamas or anything like that.

You know, sometimes it’s just too bad that I can’t do any art work or anything. I don’t need many animals. You’d have to just be in a wheelchair to draw a llama. I had to make it easier.

Have you gotten involved in the llamas community a lot

I started off volunteering at an animal shelter on this one-year anniversary. I actually saw llamas in a few shelters and it made sense that we were going to do something a little special because they are awesome, they are amazing. That’s what the llamas are all about, that they can walk on their own without much assistance or supervision. So that’s when I started to get involved with the animal protection movement. It was in 1999. I’d been with the Center for Animal Law in Philadelphia and I saw the best looking llamas ever. A few years after that, I was working with the Animal Law in D.C. That’s when when I saw really bright and beautiful llamas. It was one of the first times I was in on the llama movement.

I was actually able to do some live, training llamas and had even got a llama-tattoo t-shirt made out of them. That’s when my whole life changed. I wanted to make one of those for kids and give them that llama and put some people in the spotlight. I thought about that for a couple years and it’s been just incredible.

It was really important, being there for the llamas I remember one time I was at a gathering about llamas and I was standing in the middle of a hall with my daughter and I came up behind my daughter and just talked to her. I was just thrilled. It was amazing so much I thought about.

But just sitting there and talking wasn’t enough. What started to make this conversation really interesting was when a friend started to meet people at a local local rescue center. She brought the llamas with her. Those young boys wanted a llama as well. She brought a lot of friends. They all came from families suffering from severe illness. I think that was just an important part of it.
