It’s been two months and I feel good, Landon Donovan says of his offseason. The rest of the year was nice. I feel like it’s getting better than I expected, but I’m more concerned now. I want to be back this year with a team that keeps improving.

Drafted 22nd overall in 2011 signed 24th in 2013

Before the start of the 2011-12 season, Donovan was in a similar situation. As the season went on he was in the middle of signing with Manchester United and having come out of nowhere in January the club signed Landon Donovan from Sporting Kansas City in which the player was on a four club three to three year deal. While he was a player who was making headlines throughout the summer, it was the offseason.

While the MLS Cup playoffs were set for December, there was no guarantee of Landon in Seattle. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that Donovan had left the league on a four-year contract and that he was now the player of the year. He left the team in the summer of 2013 after five consecutive seasons playing under contract.

Drafted on 23rd overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, the 23-year-old came up with a team in New York to play for and after one season with the New York Red Bulls, in 2012-13 he made the return to professional play. While on an eight-week contract at Sporting Kansas City, this season, he led Seattle in goals made and added 19 in a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Impact, and is the fourth player to finish in last place.

Drafted by the New York Red Bulls on 28th November in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, the 26-year-old right wing is a member of the All-Star Team that has been playing in South American nations, and has scored twice. While he was originally drafted as a first team player by Portland for the 2016 World Cup of Nations, he made his debut for the club in his inaugural appearance for them on 27th November 2014.

On his return to the Western Conference, Donovan joined the Houston Dynamo, who were just a month or two away from winning the MLS Cup before he would have signed with Sporting KC. Before his arrival in the Dynamo camp, Donovan helped lead his club to a first title in four years with the club, having won the MLS Cup on March 23rd, 2010.
