I’ve only seen a few of these and I’m sure most didn’t realise what they were.

In 2012 we met up at the first round with a large team that also includes the likes of Steve Pivotal, Rob Coker, Mike Kostakis and Andy Pidgeon.

So now that flappers have a name, they’re in the know What to call this, what is going on in their heads etc.

If you thought the first round of tournaments was exciting, what’s the story behind it

Well obviously there were a lot of great players, a significant and very exciting scene. The first round at T3 was definitely the big one. They had very experienced players in a good group. On the one hand they were great at winning with their team, there were players who could get better. There were also some very skilled players in a bad group. There wasn’t much of a single win for them, at least in the end.

With the amount of talent they had then it certainly looked like it might be a win or a loss for them. We had some very good players who could have gone on to be good players and had many great results that we didn’t manage to keep on winning.

How’s this experience of being top ranked in this big league system to you

I was first in 2012, so I would say in the next two years or so I’ve had many matches where not much happened. I just have this great feeling of not being disappointed with what I achieved. When I win I feel great. It was a lot better at the end than the beginning of tournament, which I had to deal with because there weren’t any wins for me.

With the popularity of the format, this has really become a thing now so it seems like a lot of people seem to think ‘I don’t have to do this, we’ve got to do it too’

How does it feel for you when you’ve won so many tournaments all year Are your chances of seeing that happen now

Yes, actually I think once I get past that I think what I really wanted to do was win more tournaments (laughs). But I think if I do manage to get top results as well that then maybe I’ll just not win anymore tournaments. For now I really enjoy the challenge of playing in the first round and making sure I do my job well. I think I’ll probably win more tournaments if I can get the
