A man was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer in East Oakland late Friday night, local police said.

The man, 45-year-old Mark McNeil, allegedly approached the officers in the 500 block of Hines Avenue in the East Oakland neighborhood of East Lake.

McNeil is being held on a 100,000 cash bail.

A spokesperson for Officer’s Benevolent Association, Jim Hall, said the group has not received any complaints of police brutality.

There have been no reported incidents this week as compared to the week before that, Hall said.

McNeil, who was identified by police as a person of interest, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending background checks.
