They’re often associated with the late 1960s and early 1970s, as they often played the role of young professionals who wanted a better life for themselves and their families rather than the kind of glamorous, independent living that had once inspired them. It was certainly true that flappers were known through a variety of other social media platforms, but as a matter of fact, they were also often seen as a form of political dissent that was generally dismissed or shunned by many Westerners, including their fellow ‘progressive’ liberals.

In the 1960s, however, the flappers were also seen as revolutionaries, and the word ‘immanent’ quickly became associated with them. A few years ago, the term travelling to the far edge began gaining popularity. Now, thanks to more research on flappers and their social networks, we now look to more advanced studies from the 1960s and today.

In short, what we’ve seen so far is an important but somewhat incomplete picture. Flappers are largely confined to the U.S. and other parts of Asia where they mostly play a role in social activism through a variety of online platforms. So, it’s safe to say that most flappers are unlikely to have a direct involvement in any political activism in the U.S. at the moment.

What do the scholars in this research tell us about flappers, their social media activity, their impact on the movement and how they influenced movements around the world

Firstly, we can start to examine the influence of certain flappers by examining how they have made their social media footprint. This research provides insights into the role that travelling to the far edge the way that flappers actively promote social justice by engaging with social groups without being explicitly anti-authoritarian or anti-religious has played in their movements.
