How Do You Plan A Music Video Shoot - Learn Videography In 5 Days
In 2012, for a film titled Flesh, I hired my producer, David Loomis. He was a big fan of the indie genre, and wanted to see what I could do to expand his fan base by making an unoriginal project. I was excited to put together Flesh as an experimental video, so my creative director, Kevin Williams, set about figuring out how to expand the fanbase and reach out to the studio to have me produce a more contemporary approach to the genre.
What was your approach in this
One of the things we were looking for was to use technology to expand our reach to a broader audience. I wanted to have an even more unique approach as a filmmaker. I knew David Loomis wanted to take his fans on a journey that would draw new fans. It was fun to shoot a video of me making a video for my own release we had just finished a very successful Kickstarter campaign. When I started working with David, my focus was on reaching fans and reaching for new possibilities for me. My first few ideas were to use technology to expand our reach. To do that, we asked David the question If I could only create videos where the story centers around an individual, wouldn’t it be better than the videos I made with my own hands He couldn’t be more specific.
That’s definitely something I looked into. I wanted to take something that had been a relatively dormant kind of video and get it into the market quickly. He would tell us which video we’d go to. It was fun to work with him.
With the help of his wife Michellehe and his wife’s parents are divorced and living in Floridawe hired producer Justin Smith as our sound engineer. Justin had been on this mission to make a new kind of music video for the past few years. He liked to work with traditional video composers and would like to see more of what they can create through their musical styles. It was interesting to work with Justin and his team, but I was a little skeptical of Justin’s approach. They tried everything to be as close to Justin’s vision and look good on the screen.
What was your goal to achieve
My first goal was to expand the reach of the indie music movement
I wanted to work with artists willing to take the approach. Most indie music fans would probably not agree with Justin’s approach, especially artists you could relate tosome are less successful and some are more experiencedso
