A young man killed Saturday night is facing criminal charges for allegedly driving the truck he used to ram other parked cars in his backyard.
The driver of the truck that plowed into Jochingen and Van Natta in the 1200 block of East Broadway on Saturday night, Juan A. Ponce, 40, is in an administrative detention in Houghton County prison.
A witness reported seeing the tractor-trailer that was about 20 to 30 feet from the body on March 4 after hitting him hard in the front tire. The witness said the driver of that tractor-trailer had been in police custody for more than a month.
The witness also said the driver, a 26-year-old man, had a past history of using drugs, driving at high speeds and drinking alcohol, and that while driving at least three times in the last seven months, he had one previous driving conviction each.
