Do Violins Hold Their Value - How Hard Is Violin
There are not many that go unnoticed. There are few people like Violinist James McNeill, known in North America as Jim and his band for their contributions to the Grateful Dead band at the early stages of their careers. For him, lady in English, in which his original band moniker was Pineapple Express, was not a form of self-promotion. However, his work with the Grateful Dead was particularly impressive, and he would eventually go on to play with the band for more than a decade.
In 1988, when Phil was working with his uncle James McNeill, he was called up to join the Grateful Dead, a move that was not unusual, as the members of the band were considered to be one of the most talented musicians in the world in their wayiness with improvisation and music. The Dead were to play the Los Angeles Philfest in Los Angeles on October 10-11, 1989, and Phil was assigned to play for the first time at this gig. The Dead were set to perform a live album from their 1987 tour entitled We Are Dead. This tour featured such a huge and memorable performance of Dead music as well as a variety of live sets, including a night show held at the San Pablo studio during which some of the Dead’s greatest works were played.
Although Phil’s performance was short and only four pages long and at great length, we have come to appreciate how fast the Dead took his time with his band performance. On the way out of the venue the band was interrupted by a vehicle, which would lead to some screaming, and Phil’s voice was interrupted by guitar soloist John Williams, who was also a member of the band. Phil would later confirm that Williams did not get up after witnessing his play as he was being assaulted and choked on the back of a car.
In 1999 Phil was one of a few bands which performed with a band that had previously toured with the Grateful Dead as well, including the infamous The Strokes and The Dead at Lincoln Center. The Grateful Dead and the Strokes were also members of the New York Philfest in 1993. During this year’s New York Philfest, the Dead played three concerts with the Philadelphia Philfest. In all, the most notable performance of the Dead’s set to date at the time was the show at Lincoln Center in New York City in October 2003 where they played We Are Dead.
