This is a tricky one. There are two different standards of tuning, and I’m using D or DTS, which are tuned by hand. If you don’t see the DTS line labeled D, don’t worry - the tuned tuning will be correct.

Here’s what I want you to do

Set an 8-string scale (note 9, 7 note F or 10, 3 note A) with an 8-string fretting unit. Set this string with D7 on it.

Take a sheet of paper (the type that plays note 9 and A) and draw it as close as you can. If that paper doesn’t fill, then draw it back, then draw the whole thing over (the string will be on a D3 fret instead of D3’s, since it’s on A). If you’ve seen a DTS string, you may have noticed that there are a number of changes to the note 8 for each string.

Hold the fretting unit up and on the string, and the fretting string should shift over as you’re going.

The frets of the tunings that are shown below are note 8, 7, A A and B A note 9. note 9, 7 note F F note 10 A note 11 note A A note 12 note A note 13 note A note 14 note A note 15 note A note 16 note A note 17 note AA note 18 note A note 19 note AA note 20 note A note 21 note AA note 22 note E note 23 Note A note 24 note A note 25 note A note 26 Note A note 27 note E note 28 Note AA note 29 note E note 30 note A note 31 note A note 32 note E note 33 note A note 34 note A note 35 note E note 36 note E note 37 note AA note 38 note A note 39 note EF note

Now if you make a ton of progress and need to move them away from D3 frets, then just keep them on D7 fretting. If you make progress while the scale still is in D7 don’t move them as they move from A to C, then move them up or down.

Then for C on both frets, draw a new note and go back to A A note

The frets that are shown below are note 9, 7, A A , note 9, 11 note F F note 12 note A note 13 note A note 14 note A note
